Falling leaves - fiery catfish
Waller fishing in autumn can once again become a real nature experience. To be an eyewitness of a great raid by the Urians, before father frost approaches, is now a particularly beautiful perspective. The right choice of location is always goal-oriented. Whoever is in the right place at the right time will be the winner in the end. Deep water zones are my favourite fishing region in autumn. If such a place then also borders on a hunting ground of the mysterious fish, my "alarm bells" ring.

Since the catfish like to tinkle back and forth, however, it can be just as well groynes, stone-packings, embankments, herb- and sandbanks, where it chases the swarms of its loot-fish. But even here nobody can guarantee which choice of spot will turn out to be the right one. In life there is nothing given for free, so I fish in several places at once and try to optimize my chances of catching a catfish.
Three variations, three question marks!
- Variant: Catfish fishing in shallow water
- Variant: Attack on sloping edges
- Variant: Test in deeper zones
Catfish fishing in the "flat" is always relative. I decide not to fish shallower than two meters in autumn. All the while I don't expect catfish to be found in very shallow waters at this time of year. In summer, on the other hand, even the biggest specimens bite at much shallower depths. Shallow water zones are mostly found in the area of sandbanks and herb banks. My second variation, fishing on steeply sloping edges on the side facing the depths, works best where groynes or stone packs are encountered. Small fish seek the protection of these edges and wallers are only too happy to patrol along these structures.
The deeper water as the third target region naturally speaks for itself. These are also often the deepest places at all near the hunting grounds of predatory fish. Such pools or deep outer curves in the rivers are often used by catfish as a stall when they want to retreat when the water gets colder. That these territory recommendations are not just empty words can be seen in the pictures from my last autumn session.
Rods and reels for this fishing method are very complex. My preference for the Black Cat rods "The Cat Bank" and the "Cat Buster Multistyle" is well known. For me there is nothing better. As reels I use the Black Cat Long Ranger and the Buster LTL30. At the moment the big reels are often idealized, but also smaller models have their advantages. If you don't have to cover a long distance, they are simply more comfortable to hold. The Cat Buster Combo with the Buster LTL30 is "per du" a dream combination for catfish fishing in terms of weight. Just take it in your hand; afterwards you will say, I will keep it!
